Who are the Leonin?

A feline race known as the Leonin comes from the planet Theros. They are modeled after lions and share many of their characteristics, such as furry bodies, manes, and tails. But at 6 to 7 feet tall, they dwarf their real-world counterparts by a considerable margin. Furthermore, they have eyes that aren't just green or yellow; leonin can also be black or white.

Leonin mature around the age of twelve and have a lifespan of up to sixty years. Both sexes have long tails, with males typically being slightly larger than females. The Leonin are known for their distinctive claws, but they also have sharp teeth that they use to hunt prey. If necessary, they will also readily consume plants. While the majority of Leonin have tawny or golden fur, dark brown, black, and white pelts are not uncommon. Scars, pride markings (such as braids or tassels), and even the coloration of their fur allow for creative expression in terms of appearance.

Overall, the Leonins are quite intimidating opponents at first glance due to their rigid appearance, but those who take the time to get to know them discover that they are proud yet honorable warriors with strong family ties.

Relations

Although the Leonin are a proud and noble race, they do not have a great deal of faith in strangers. They get along well with other races who are aligned with them, including paladins and aasimar. Because they both enjoy smithing and engineering, they are also reputed to get along well with dwarves.

What do Leonin look like?

Leonin are typically over 6 feet tall with a medium build. Some Leonin are over 7 feet tall. They frequently wear braids or dreadlocks on their lengthy manes of hair. Their thick coats come in a variety of tones, from light tan to dark brown. Their tails are long and muscular, and they have large paws with pointed claws.

Speed

The base walking speed of the Leonin race is 35 feet per minute. Additionally, they have darkvision, which enables them to see in total darkness as well as dim light up to 60 feet away.

Claws

The Leonin are a feline race that inhabits the Shavarath plane. They are renowned for their mastery of the martial arts and proficiency in close quarters combat. You can quickly approach enemies thanks to the Leonin's increased walking speed. The Leonin can also use their claws as natural weapons, dealing slashing damage on hits equal to 1d4 strength modifier. The Daunting Roar ability, available to the Leonin, can severely buff nearby enemies. Last but not least, the Leonin have a 2 racial bonus to Constitution, making them tough warriors indeed!

Daunting Roar

For those who want to play characters with a commanding presence in DnD 5e, the Leonin race is fantastic. Bards are good at intimidating people, but the Barbarians' Daunting Roar talent really distinguishes this race when it comes to handling crowds. You could try a Valor Bard, but in medium armor a strength-based build is very challenging since you need 14 dexterity and decent strength, constitution, and charisma scores, which can be difficult to come by.

Classes for Leonin

The Barovian plains are home to the feline race known as the Leonin. They are renowned for their tenacity in defending their pride and for their courage and strength. They are ideal for combat classes like the barbarian, fighter, and paladin because of these characteristics.

When fighting multiple enemies close up, their “daunting roar” ability is especially helpful. As a result, they are advantageous on any battlefield. Keep this in mind when picking a class for your Leonin character and select one that will let you make the most of this special racial trait!

Paladin

The Leonin are a feline race that originated on the Shavarath plane. They are big, chiseled cats with black manes and fur. Although males tend to be larger than females, both sexes are powerful animals. The Leonin have two strengths and one intelligence. They can see in the dark up to 60 feet away, have a speed of 30 feet, and are proficient in perception. Leonin can use their roar ability as an action. They can now roar loudly and magically as a result. Any creature that can hear the Leonin's roar and is within 30 feet of it must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or suffer 1 minute of fright. If a creature is within 10 feet of the Leonin, it will have a disadvantageous outcome when repeating the saving throw at the end of each of its turns.
